Late Sylas Ruhweza Atwooki’s Life of Service and Leadership

Sylas Ruhweza Atwooki was a dedicated leader, education advocate, and community servant whose life was marked by service, mentorship, and youth empowerment. Through his leadership roles at Makerere University, the Tooro Kingdom, and the Mastercard Foundation Alumni Network, he left a lasting impact on many lives. His legacy of transformative leadership and commitment to uplifting others will be fondly remembered.
Early Life and Education
Sylas Ruhweza was born on 19th July 1994 to the late Tinkasimire Paul Adyeeri and Ms. Ategeka Margret Abwooli in present-day Bunyangabu District. He was the ninth of eleven children.
Ruhweza attended Kaboyo Primary School and Fort Portal Secondary School before proceeding to Hannah International School for A-Level studies through the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.
He graduated from Makerere University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Geoscience and Production, supported by the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University.
At the time of his passing, he was pursuing a Master’s degree at Victoria University.
Leadership, Service and Professional Contributions
Ruhweza served as Chairperson of the Mastercard Foundation Alumni Network at BRAC from 2020 to 2022, demonstrating transformative leadership and commitment to social change.
He was also the President of the Makerere AlumNet Foundation, an umbrella organization that brings together all the Scholars Makerere Alumni Chapter.
He worked as an eLearning Support Officer at CONAS under the e-learning initiative at Makerere University.
He was a Member of the Steering Committee of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University, representing the Scholars Makerere Alumni Chapter.
At the time of his passing, he was serving as Minister of Information in the Tooro Kingdom, Strategy and Engagement Lead for the Mastercard Foundation Alumni Network – Uganda Chapter, and Program Associate at the Africa Climate Collaborative, one of the Mastercard Foundation initiatives at Makerere University.
Ruhweza’s Legacy
The late will be remembered for his dedication to education, leadership, mentorship, and community service.
He passionately championed youth empowerment, collaboration, and social responsibility.
His life reflected the transformative power of education, servant leadership, and a commitment to uplifting others.
Sylas leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, leadership, and impact on the communities he served.
