Makerere University, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, is offering 50 Masters and 12 PhD Scholarship opportunities under the Africa Climate Collaborative.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must belong to one of the following categories:

Refugee or Internally Displaced Young People

Young Persons with Disabilities

International Students

Young People Living in a Refugee Host Community

Young People from Minority Tribes

Other Ugandan Youth

70% of scholarships are for female applicants and 30% for male applicants.

A) Masters Degree Requirements

  1. Must have applied for admission to Makerere University's main campus for 2026/2027
  2. Must have completed undergraduate education in an African country
  3. Should be experiencing financial hardships to pursue higher education
  4. Should not be a holder of any other scholarship
  5. Should not be pursuing or have completed any Master's degree studies
  6. Should have engaged in leadership responsibilities and/or community service
  7. Should not be over 35 years at the application deadline
  8. Refugee applicants MUST hold a refugee identity card or Family Attestation
  9. Should have interest in research, innovation and entrepreneurship in climate resilience
  10. Should be committed to complete the degree in 2 years

MSc. in Environment and Natural Resources Management

MSc. in Agricultural Engineering

M.A. in Economic Policy and Planning

MSc. in Renewable Energy

MSc. in Technology Innovation and Industry Development

MSc. in Livestock Development and Management

MSc. of Global Biosecurity and Infectious Diseases Management

B) Doctoral Degree Requirements

  1. Must have applied for admission to Makerere University's main campus for 2026/2027
  2. Must have completed undergraduate and Master's education in an African country
  3. Should be experiencing financial hardships to pursue higher education
  4. Should not be a holder of any other scholarship
  5. Should not be pursuing or have completed any doctoral degree studies
  6. Should have engaged in leadership responsibilities and/or community service
  7. Should not be over 40 years at the application deadline
  8. Refugee applicants MUST hold a Refugee Identity card or Family Attestation
  9. Research focus should contribute to climate resilience and sustainability in agropastoral landscapes
  10. Should be committed to complete the degree in 4 years
