Profile
Patrick Byakagaba is a PhD holder from Makerere
University. He is currently at the rank of Senior Lecturer in the Department of
Environmental Management, School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical
Sciences where he has served since 2006.
He is also the Lead- Climate Resilience Support Centre at the Africa Climate
Collaborative at Makerere University in partnership with the Mastercard
Foundation. He also coordinates
research and graduate studies at the Department of Environmental Management,
Makerere University. Most of his research is in environmental and climate
Policy, climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience, environmental and
natural resource governance, conservation and protected area governance and policy,
plantation forestry, biodiversity offsets, ecosystem services, extractives, rangeland
management, savanna woodland ecology and energy.
He is a
member of several professional groups such as Standards Development Group for
Forest Stewardship Council in Uganda, Uganda forestry working group, the
Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy of the International
Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Uganda
Green Economy Learning Alliance and the
Africa Natural Capital Accounting Community of Practice. He works across
disciplines in the quest for innovative solutions in conservation,
environmental governance, climate justice and sustainability.
